Building From the Ground Up- Literally
Works of art created with nature

Frisco, TX – 07/09/2007 – Faux Real today announced

A local Frisco company called Faux Real is taking decorative finishes to a higher level using natural mineral plasters imported from Italy and troweled onto walls in several layers to create a unique work of art.

Steve Olvera, otherwise known as "The Marbleman", has been using authentic Italian “Venetian” plaster to create decorative finishes on client’s walls for several years. "The material is comprised of marble, it hardens right away and after 21 days it chemically sets to its original state- marble stone. The look, feel, and smell of this plaster can't be matched with ordinary paint or faux."

One really special finish called "Stucco Valentino" comprises of 7 layers of plaster built up to create a beautiful weathered slab of stone. "It's a lot of work but after the wall is completed I look at it with the satisfaction in knowing that every wall we plaster has a piece of Italy on it. Why spend thousand of dollars to experience only a moment of Italy when you can have it in your home every day?" The Stucco Valentino is great for accent walls, ceilings, niches, furniture, and many other places you may want to make an impact. All plasters are natural and are mined from the Italian Alps and processed in Verona.

Faux Real offers decorative wall finishes ranging from $2 a sq. ft. up to $20 a sq. ft. Venetian plaster finishes start at $8 a sq. ft. Steve Olvera says, "It is really inexpensive when you break it all down in cost per layer and value. A faux finish is generally $2.50-$3.00 a sq. ft. for one rolled base coat and a one or two color glazes in one pass. So just imagine a faux finish being applied in several layers/passes on a wall. The price naturally will go up. Venetian plaster normally requires 4 passes on a wall, which would make the price quite reasonable. Why settle for paint when you can have the beauty of Italy in your home every day? Paint becomes blah over time, faux fades, but Italian Venetian plasters will last the test of time."

Most Italian Venetian plaster finishes require 3 layers covering the entire wall, then the burnishing (scraping the surface with a trowel) and in some cases wax will be applied for added durability and protection. All plasters are non-toxic, non-flammable, create a hypo-allergenic environment, resists dust mites, mold and mildew, and regulate indoor humidity. Very little to no sanding is involved in the process. That is a big bonus because so many faux Venetian plasters require sanding the whole surface to obtain the desired look. That creates a huge dust nightmare and can cause allergic reactions including respiratory irritation.

Gary, a client from Keller said, “I have never seen anything like it. I have had Venetian plaster in my home before, but this is truly unique.” Another couple in Plano had the Valentino finish in their home over the fireplace; they loved it so much they decided not to have any art work nailed to the wall like they had before. Why cover this beautiful work of art?

Decorative Finish of July

Decorative Finish of the MONTH

This month’s finish is called Stucco Cadere Mattone. Pronounced stùc-co ca-dé-re mat-tó-ne.

This authentic Italian “Venetian” plaster finish is a mixture of several plasters to create the look and feel of a true plaster and brick breakaway wall. I’m sure you have seen several finishes that use paint to create the effect of breakaway plaster but this finish takes that look into reality. The brick is troweled onto the surface in whatever brick formation you design for you client. The bricks can be small, big, stacked stone, with recessed grout or with pronounced grout. The colors are also up to you. The plaster is very unique in that the thicker we apply it the more cracks you get. You can have as neat of a wall with thin texture and very little cracks to resemble a wall that may not be as old but yet has broken away from the brick structure or you can do it the way I like it.... heavy and thick with lot’s of interest. This look is very aged, as if the wall had been plasted many centuries and is showing it’s age.

All plasters are non-toxic, non-flammable, and our mineral plasters create a hypo-allergenic environment, resist dust mites, cools a room because in 28 days they calcify back to stone, resist mold and mildew, and regulate indoor humidity. Our lime plasters are mined from the Italian Alps, so in every home we have the pleasure of knowing that we literally leave a piece of Italy on its walls. Custom hand wall finishes created to your design and liking.

When designing your clients environment it is a good idea to search the web for pictures that will inspire the art work that will adorn the walls. Pictures of real walls will always offer the best examples. If you have a vision but can’t find a picture we can work the design out with you and create a sample board to fit your needs.

The Stucco Valentino

The incredible Stucco Valentino. This finish gives a strong statement, one of rich texture, vibrant color, historical value, and stands out from the rest. My clients wanted something that would be attractive and unique and when I showed them my Valentino sample board they wanted it. This finish is very elaborate in layers of true authentic Italian plaster. From the first layer to the last, all of it is mined from the Italian Alps, processed in Verona Italy, and applied on this wall.

This special finish is a 7 layer process that hardens after a few days and in 21 days is back to it's original state. The look is of weathered stone and the feel is smooth to the touch.

The Stucco Valentino can be tinted in any color you prefer. It has been done in beige, blue, and black/white. So the color can be up to you, but the look will always be outstanding.

Here are some application options... Niches, ceilings, focal walls, columns, furniture pieces, wine cellars, entry ways, and fireplace/oven hoods.
